What is language?

Now that we have seen some of the different methods that we could find in education, we should make ourselves clear about what the concept of language is.

Man is a social species so it is quite evident that language is a tool for communication enabling humans to interact, cooperate and carry out tasks in the context of social groups.

This way, the concept of “language as communication” is relevant for us as English teachers because the main goal of the English subject is to develop students’ communicative competence, which is reflected in the official curriculum.
